FAQ

1. Is Malta more of a beach destination or a party destination?

Both — but not in equal doses.
Malta has gorgeous swimming spots (St. Peter’s Pool, Golden Bay, Comino), but the sand is limited.
For nightlife, Paceville is the island’s beating, neon-lit heart.

2. How easy is it to get between Malta, Gozo, and Comino?

Very easy.

  • Gozo: Fast ferries from Valletta & standard ferries from Ċirkewwa.
  • Comino (Blue Lagoon): Boats run constantly from multiple towns.

In summer, go early — Blue Lagoon fills faster than a nightclub queue.

3. Are buses reliable?

Cheap? Yes.
Reliable? Debatable.
Buses are frequent but often delayed, especially in summer.
Most travellers use buses + occasional Bolt/Taxi to fill the gaps.

4. Can I drink the tap water?
Technically yes — it’s desalinated and safe.
But it has a very strong mineral/salty taste.
Most young travellers buy bottled or use hotel/hostel filtered water.
5. Is Malta good for solo travellers?
Absolutely.
It’s small, safe, English-speaking, and full of other young travellers — especially June–September.
Hostels in St. Julian’s, Sliema, and Valletta have great social vibes.
6. What should I know about swimming spots?

Malta is rocky more than sandy.
Bring:

  • water shoes,
  • a towel you don’t mind ruining on sun-baked rocks,
  • sunscreen that won’t abandon you at the first splash.

The water is insanely clear, but currents can be strong around cliffs.
