Travel from San Jose through beautiful landscapes on the way to the pristine rainforests of Tortuguero National Park. Brimming with abundant flora and fauna, the park has a system of natural canals and the only transportation in this area is by boat. Enjoy incredible wildlife viewing within the canals, lagoons and coastal jungle.
Shuttle and Boat San Jose to Tortuguero
Depart San Jose at around 6:00 am accompanied by your naturalist guide, driving past coffee plantations and the stunning landscapes of Braulio Carrillo National Park. Keep an eye out for misty cloud forests and distant waterfalls before stopping for an authentic Costa Rican breakfast of fruit juice, coffee, eggs and the popular "Gallo Pinto".
After breakfast, we'll continue to a banana plantation, where your guide will explain the process of growing and exporting that fruit. We will continue driving on the shuttle and then transfer to a boat for the final leg of the journey into Tortuguero National Park, a pristine nature reserve and an important nesting site for green sea turtles. Learn about how nature works here, and get a real feel of the Costa Rican tropical humid rainforest.
Covering 29000 hectares, Tortuguero is home to endangered mammals such as sloths, monkeys, agoutis, coatimundis and manatees. There are also abundant birds, such as toucans, trogons, egrets, herons and anhingas, as well as crocodiles, turtles and countless colourful butterflies, including blue morpho.
After lunch, you may go on an optional walking tour of the Museum and the town to learn about the local culture (not included). Depending on the season, tonight you can also participate in an optional night tour (not included), which consists of a boat trip to Tortuguero National Park followed by walking on the beach to observe the nesting of the Giant Green Sea Turtle (available only from July to October).

Tortuguero National Park Boat and Walking Tour
Wake up early this morning to enjoy breakfast including fruits, eggs, juice, toast and fresh brewed Costa Rican coffee. Go on a guided tour and walk to the rainforest on the trails at the lodge. In the afternoon, your guide will take you by boat to one of the most enchanting sites in the region, where you will explore lagoons and hidden canals and see nearly 50-metre-tall trees covered with bromeliads, vines and orchids, as well as an array of other flora and fauna. Spot animals such as howler monkeys, white face capuchins, spider monkeys, over 400 species of birds, iguanas, jesus christ lizards and more!
Return to your accommodation and enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your leisure.

Rise early again this morning for breakfast and admire even more breathtaking nature. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure to relax at your lodge or discover more of the town on your own before dinner.

Transfer back to San Jose
Today enjoy your last breakfast in paradise before catching your boat and shuttle transfers back to San Jose, where your adventure will end upon arrival at 3:30 pm.
