Welcome to Egypt! Arrive in Cairo and check into your hotel. Your tour leader hosts a welcome meeting in the evening to brief the group on what's ahead. If you arrive early, head out to the bustling Khan El-Khalili bazaar or grab a coffee in one of Cairo's atmospheric cafes for your first taste of the city.

Today belongs to the giants of Giza. Visit the Pyramids of Giza — the last surviving Wonder of the Ancient World — and stand before the enigmatic Sphinx. Free afternoon for optional add-ons: Saqqara and Memphis Urban Adventure, the Egyptian Museum or the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization to see the Royal Mummy Room. In the evening, board the overnight sleeper train south to Aswan.

Arrive in sun-soaked Aswan, Egypt's most laid-back city on the Nile. After checking in, your leader takes you on an orientation walk through the spice-scented bazaar, where you can haggle for hibiscus tea, scarves and Nubian crafts. Free afternoon — optional: an early-start day trip to the colossal temples of Abu Simbel, or a sunset felucca ride past Elephantine Island.

Morning kayak adventure on the Nile — paddle through one of the world's most legendary landscapes, passing Nubian villages and palm groves with the Sahara Desert as a backdrop. Free afternoon to relax, swim or take optional add-ons: Philae Temple, the High Dam or a Nubian village visit.

The highlight of the trip for many — board a traditional felucca sailing boat for an unforgettable overnight sail down the Nile. Lie back on deck as you drift past riverside villages, palm-lined banks and ancient ruins. As the sun sets, your crew prepares a traditional dinner with music. Sleep on deck under a blanket of stars — pure Egyptian magic.

Disembark from the felucca and travel by road to Luxor — the world's greatest open-air museum, built on the site of ancient Thebes. Check into your hotel and head out exploring. Optional: visit the magnificent Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple at sunset, or book a hot air balloon ride for tomorrow morning at sunrise over the Theban necropolis.

Cross the Nile to the west bank with an expert Egyptologist guide. Descend into three royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings — wandering through hieroglyph-covered corridors that have remained sealed for 3,000 years. Option to upgrade your ticket to enter Tutankhamun's tomb. In the evening, board the overnight sleeper train back to Cairo.

Arrive back in Cairo. A full free day to explore the megacity at your own pace. Recommended options: Coptic Cairo with its ancient churches and the Hanging Church, the medieval Citadel of Saladin, the labyrinthine Khan El-Khalili bazaar, or the brand-new National Museum of Egyptian Civilization housing the Royal Mummy Room. Farewell dinner with the group in the evening.
