Travel Iceland
Iceland has been topping bucket lists since April 2010 when the Eyjafjallajökull volcano erupted and acted as a flashing neon billboard to the world for Iceland’s natural beauty. Known for glaciers, geysers, waterfalls, hot springs, ice caves, the spectacular aurora borealis, and the midnight sun, Iceland is a paradise for lovers of nature and adventure seekers. But beyond the contrasting landscapes, Iceland is also a land of myths and legends.

FAQ
1. Do I really need to rent a 4x4?
Not always.
For the Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon, Reykjavik, and ring-road sections in summer, a normal car is fine.
But for winter trips or exploring the rugged F-roads (Iceland’s wild mountain tracks), a 4×4 is essential — and sometimes legally required.
2. How expensive is food and alcohol?
Iceland prices hit different.
A burger can be €18–25, and cocktails often cost more than your flight.
Most young travellers stock up at Bonus or Krónan supermarkets and pre-drink at the hostel before going out.
3. Can I camp anywhere?
It used to be allowed, but now wild camping is restricted.
You can only camp anywhere if:
- the land is unfenced,
- not privately owned,
- and you’re on foot.
Most travellers stick to official campsites — cheap, clean, and everywhere.
4. Is driving in winter dangerous?
It can be.
Expect icy roads, sudden whiteouts, strong winds that feel like they’re trying to peel your car into a sticker.
Check safetravel.is and road.is every morning.
If they say “don’t drive,” believe them.
5. How long do I need for the Ring Road?
The full loop is 1,300 km, and most people under-estimate it.
Minimum: 7–8 days
Comfortable: 10–12 days
If you only have 3–5 days, stick to the South Coast — it’s the greatest hits album.
6. Can I swim in every hot spring I find?
Some are protected, dangerous, or way too hot (boiling hot).
Stick to known spots: Blue Lagoon, Sky Lagoon, Secret Lagoon, Reykjadalur, Myvatn Nature Baths.
When in doubt: if locals don’t swim there, neither should you.
