FAQ

1. Do I need to cover my hair or dress modestly everywhere?

No — only in mosques.
For entry, women need to cover hair/shoulders, and both men & women must cover legs.
Everywhere else (Istanbul, beaches, Cappadocia, Antalya) normal summer clothing is fine.

2. Are hot-air balloons in Cappadocia guaranteed to fly every day?

No — and that’s the plot twist most travellers don’t expect.
Flights depend on wind and weather.
Cancellations are common, so always book at least 2–3 nights to increase your chances.

3. Is tap water safe to drink?
Technically treated, but locals overwhelmingly drink bottled water.
Most travellers do the same.
Hotels/hostels often provide refill stations.
4. Is Turkey safe for solo travellers?

Generally yes, especially tourist areas like Istanbul, Cappadocia, Antalya, and Fethiye.
Expect helpful locals, but also:

  • decline persistent salesmen politely,
  • avoid unofficial taxis,
  • stay aware in strong crowds like bazaars.
5. How do I get around Turkey efficiently?

Turkey has one of the best bus networks in Europe/Asia.
Options:

  • Intercity buses (comfortable, cheap, Wi-Fi)
  • Domestic flights (quick & affordable)
  • High-speed trains between some major cities

Driving is possible but chaotic in cities.

6. Are the beach resorts super touristy?

Some are.

  • Antalya, Bodrum, Marmaris: busy, energetic, nightlife-heavy.
  • Kaş, Fethiye, Datça: more relaxed, scenic, better for nature & younger backpacker vibes.

Choose based on whether you want peace or party.
